Measles Vaccine, 1960
The New York Times on October 5 ran a short piece on first mentions of measles and measles preventives on its pages. The item focuses on John Enders’s early measles vaccine, tested in 1960 at the Willowbrook State School in New York and in Nigeria.
We’re lucky to have video of Samuel L. Katz, MD, who worked with Enders in his lab, talking about isolating the measles virus and developing the vaccine. View the videos here: The Enders Lab Attacks Measles and Testing a Measles Vaccine. For more details on measles vaccine development, see our measles vaccine timeline.
